How does Contribute A Gadget work?

01

Contribute a gadget

To begin with, the customer contacts us, to donate their old or unused gadget (laptop, desktop, smart phone) which they no longer use. Remember that this is a non-profit organisation, so we are not buying the laptop, instead you are donating it to the children in need for a good cause.

02

Visits nearest drop-off centre

Once the donator is willing to donate their gadget, we ask them to meet with our supervisor in our drop-off centre closest to them, and hand over the gadget. Once the gadget is handed over, the supervisor checks for any damages and whether the gadget can be used or not. The supervisor also checks for the necessary accessories to maintain the gadget.

03

Donated to the closest family/NGO

Once the gadget has been approved, we locate a NGO/ low income school to handover the gadget to. The NGO distributes it to the families in need, or our team gives it to the family directly. Not only that, the person handing over the gadget also teaches the student how to maintain and use it in case the student is not aware of how to use it.

Students reached

The problem we are solving.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in schools being shut across the country and the world. This unprecedented, global crisis means that more than 85% of all students—1.4 billion young people globally—are out of school. In India the situation is particularly worse as students don’t have access to gadgets and smart phones in their households.

India produces 40- 50 tonnes of e-waste every year. Half of this is personal devices such as computers, screens, smartphones, tablets, and TVs, with the remainder being larger household appliances and heating and cooling equipment. Our initiative tries to solve the problem of e-waste by collecting old gadgets and giving it to people from low income households in Coimbatore.
